week 9

this week we decided on a grimm fairytale. we chose one about a soldier who works for the devil for 7 years then some innkeeper steals all his gold so he plays music for the king. we decided to make it current day as it was something everyone in the group was comfortable with. there was some ideas like making it futuristic but a futuristic hell seemed hard to do.

week 8

anamatics were due. i chose the first extract so i diddnt have to read the whole script. other people seemed to have done the second saying it was easier but it looked like a lot more work. i diddnt mind having to draw military vehicles and bases so though i was more suited to the first
we got put into concept art groups this week. i dont hate any of the people i was put with so im happy

week 7

this week was about colour theory and tone studies. specifically light source and shadow, form and blocking, mood and atmosphere

week 6

this week was about layout again. it covered Composition, Designing Pans, Zip Pan, Bi-Pack, Laying out of Effects on a 2-D Film, 3-D Blocking and contemporary digital pre-visualisation
techniques. composition is split into 3, foreground, mid ground and background.

week 5

this week covered Advance Layout Techniques, Introduction to the layout, color coding system, Scene planning for Flash. layout covered overlays/underlays, designed to assist creating depth, match lines, special effects, character placement, tangential growth, hook ups and match cuts, perspective grids and cleanup.

1-4

Week 1
We watched a dvd of a guy drawing dinosaurs to learn about thumbnailing. we also watched some other guy do Sci FI thumbnailing but it was more about blocking in shapes in the thumbnail where as the dinosaur one was about gesture. Both Prepared us for the thumbnailing exersise given to us which was to thumbnail possible designs for an inn in a provided Grimms fairy tale.

Week 2
We went through the thumbnails we did the week before. I needed to work on my verticals but the angles i used were apparently good. We watched a video of a guy painting but it diddnt have much to teach.

Week 3
We learned about breaking down scripts using colours for different aspects of the script. we also were given a script and had to do thumbnail to establish the scene, keeping compostion in mind.

Week 4
We Looked at Pre Production elements of King Kong and Hellboy. the hellboy one was more useful as it compared the animatic and storyboards to the final product. The king kong one was interesting to see the 3d animatic, which gave the acters a better idea of what to do. We also went over the script for the assignment and went through some thumbnails for it.
